This website contains photos taken by Ian Swindale, a member of the group who went on the Adventure Company Realm of the Maya holiday in early 2008. Chichen Itza, in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico is a late Mayan archaeological site.	Palenque, close to the Mexican border with Guatemala, is one of the most impressive Mayan sites.	Bonampak is a small Mayan site noted for its frescoes.
Yachilan can only be reached by a trip down the Usumacinta river.	Tikal is the largest archaeological site on the American continent.	The Rio Dulce is the only way to access the Caribbean coastal town of Livingston.
Quiriqua, also in Guatemala, is a small archaeological site with some unusual zoomorphic statues	Copan is the most important Mayan site in Honduras with a history spanning almost 3,000 years.	Santiago Atitlan is the largest of the Mayan villages on the shores of Lake Atitlan.
Chichicastenango is famous for its twice-weekly market.	The Finca Filadelfia is a coffee plantation just on the outskirts of Antigua.	The fine Spanish colonial town of Antigua was a former capital of Guatemala.

These photographs show a tourist's view of the region. The other side of the picture is severe poverty, malnutrition among many children and lack of educational opportunities. Two charities based in Guatemala are doing something about this. Minoan Crete now contains around 500 photos of 60 Minoan archaeological sites in Crete together with a description of each site, site plans and a number of video clips.

The Parthenon Marbles is a site I created together with my class of Advanced English students in Rethymno, Crete. It gives the history of the Parthenon Marbles, the positions of the British and Greek governments, the British Museum, and contains lots of other documents as well as photos of the Marbles.

Crete in pictures. I live on the island of Crete and this gives me the opportunity to photograph Crete when it is at its best -- in the winter and early spring. See Crete as it is never seen by the tourists.

Karpathos in Pictures contains photos taken mainly in the mountain village of Olympos where women still wear traditional costume in their everyday work, and life is lived in a way that no longer exists in other parts of Greece and is probably destined to die out soon on Karpathos itself.

Rhodes and Symi in Pictures. In 1988 I spent a week on Rhodes and Symi. Here are some of the pictures I took.
